This spring I am participating in a fabulous collaborative project and group exhibit orchestrated by curator Shilin Hora and Grow Studio. The exhibit aims to both sew the seeds for artistic careers and draw attention to the marvels of the natural environment. I will be showing some recent and bran new works combining the techniques of paper making, embroidery and encaustic painting. Clothing, mapping and nature are my subject matter.
Along with a selection of work from Montreal Artists the exhibit will feature a seed quilt. A troop of artists and volunteers has already spent a few outdoor afternoons hunting for seeds in Montreal Parks. We are now engaged in the process of composing quilting squares. Creating the squares involves the delicate procedure of perching seeds on the intersections of a network of threads. The completed squares will be assembled on a twine mesh and suspended from ceiling. I can't wait to see it!
The exhibit runs from May 30th to June 13th, Vernissage May 30th, 6-10pm! Gallery Shodan is at 1425 Rene Levesque below the Sushi Bar.
